As the Secretary of State's Des/Act N.10 of 18th February 1881, appointing Mr Hadehouse to the Offices of Police Magistrate and Coroner did not state the amount of salary, Mr. Hodhouse has, since his arrival in the Colony, been drawing the full emoluments of Coroner allowed for in the Colonial Estimates, viz £200 per annum.

The salary of Coroner was fixed for the first time on the occasion of Mr Wadehouse's appointment. It would appear that the Crown Agents were only giving Mr Wadehouse half pay for Coronership as the Secretary of State intended the pay of Police Magistrate and Coroner, equal to the salary of the Registrarship which he vacated.
